Author

Businesswoman and author M. Audrey Stewart-Hinchcliffe has forged a decades-long career in the health sector locally and internationally. Starting as a Nurse in Jamaica and the United States of America, she went on to become an administrator and educator serving in various capacities including as the Health Development Officer at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Her foray into business commenced upon her return to Jamaica.

Drawing on her experience in the health sector, Stewart-Hinchcliffe’s foray as an author saw her first publication: Taking Care, A Manual for Medical Office Administrators, published in 1988 “to improve the standard of health administration and delivery”.

Following a hiatus while building a business, her next project was The Will to Overcome: Reflections on Circumstance, Vision, Service (Arawak Publications, 2020), based on a compilation of speeches and articles covering a wide range of subjects, which she explored as a highly respected industry leader and member of Jamaica’s corporate community.

Her most recent publication, A Time Like No Other: The COVID-19 Pandemic, Perspectives on Jamaica’s Experience, is based on articles that she wrote and published in Jamaica’s Daily Gleaner during the height of the COVID-19 outbreak. It chronicles many of the issues with which Jamaica had to grapple during this challenging “time like no other” and confirms the depth of her understanding and analysis of the health sector, as she examines Jamaica’s (and the world’s) attempt to manage a situation for which there was virtually no precedent.

With this book, the author aims to provide a useful reference for future health emergencies like Covid-19 as well as for research, public policy, and public education. A Time Like No Other: The Covid-19 Pandemic, Perspectives of Jamaica’s Experience should also serve as a call to action, not only for Jamaica but the Caribbean and the wider global community.

Recognised at the highest level, for her contribution to nation building, Stewart-Hinchcliffe was conferred with the national honor of Order of Distinction, Commander Class (2006) for entrepreneurial endeavors. She holds a M.Sc. in Health Administration from Long Island University, New York, a Bachelor of Arts in Community Health Management from St. Francis College, New York, and a Diploma in Health Economics from the University of York, U.K.

Stewart-Hinchcliffe is founder of Caribbean Health Management Consultants Limited, and founder, Chairman and former CEO of Manpower and Maintenance Services Limited Group, one of the largest facilities maintenance and multi-service organisations in Jamaica and the Caribbean. She is the recipient of numerous awards, has served as a member of several corporate boards and high-level committees and is a sought-after public speaker.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Chairman of MMS, M. Audrey Stewart-Hinchcliffe has launched her new book, A Time Like No Other: The COVID-19 Pandemic, Perspectives on Jamaica’s Experience. The book which had its genesis in articles published in the Daily Gleaner during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, provides commentary on some of the issues and events that were pertinent during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The publication is intended as a reference for future health emergencies and should be useful for research, public education and also serve as a call to action.

This is the fourth book published by the author. The others include Taking Care, A Manual for Medical Office Administrators (1988), The Will To Overcome: Reflections on Circumstance, Vision Service (2020), edited with an introduction by our Professor Canute Thompson; and Chapters of Your Life, Wise Words for Women on a Life-Changing Journey (2021), written specifically for women but appropriate for everyone and encourages self-examination for growth and optimal living.

All proceeds from the sale of these books go to fund the Manpower Foundation which supports projects in Health, Education and Sports.

A TIME LIKE NO OTHER

Comprising and expanding on articles written for Jamaica’s Daily Gleaner during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Audrey Stewart-Hinchcliffe’s most recent book,

A Time Like No Other … reflects her unapologetic interest and engagement in social discourse, keen sense of observation and proven ability to analyse, interpret and provide perspective on current events.

It is a publication of record as it provides commentary on some of the issues and events that were pertinent during the height of the pandemic, “making it a historical document in a sense. However, it is primarily educational, delivering sound advice to both government and the public should there be another such public health emergency.” Readers are reminded of the challenges surrounding this “time like no other,” as Jamaica and other nations around the world grappled with overcoming COVID-19, an unseen but deadly enemy.

Hinchcliffe’s book is not only a reminder but a cautionary tale for private citizens, governments, the business community and all individuals.

It is a must read, lest we forget!

CHAPTERS OF YOUR LIFE

Blanketed in the powerful and highly appropriate thematic metaphor of a merciless coronavirus pandemic, Chapters of Your Life is a cleverly crafted story that jolts us into facing our lived experiences squarely and answering the call of a “pilgrimage through self” by daring to remove the blanket that imprisons us in our unfreedom.
